Hi Guys, can you believe it is two entire weeks of the New Year already gone? I can’t either!! That just shows how time flies. Anyhow, let me officially wish you a happy new year and welcome you to 2017. In my last post I briefly reviewed everything that went down last year especially in my Quilting and I did refer you back to my first post from 2016 where I made a list of commitments as against resolutions. I mean there is nothing wrong with making resolutions but I found out over the years that most times the excitement ends at making the list and most often than not it remains a list with no action or result to show. Hence, decided instead on a list of short and achievable commitments. Subsequently, in addition to the commitments I made last year which are still very valid, I am adding a commitment to be more proactive and deliberate in the actions I take towards achieving my set goals for this year. Truthfully I can’t even say I have it all planned and figured out yet but I am consciously noting what would be nice to and what must be achieved in my quilting and general life.
Towards the end of last year, I figured out what my keywords for 2017 should be and the words are consistency and discipline. “Consistency means the quality of achieving a level of performance which does not vary greatly in quality over time. It also means steadfast adherence to the same principles, course…etc.” “Discipline means training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior, especially training that produces moral or mental improvement. To train by instruction and practice, as in following rules or developing self-control. Controlled behavior resulting from disciplinary training and self-control”.
Honestly, knowing what to do has never been the issue and most times getting started is not difficult either. What I find lacking is the consistency and the discipline it takes to sustain the momentum in the midst of every other distraction. Therefore, part of being proactive and deliberate means I have to be more disciplined and consistent towards the achievement of my set goals. Meaning, while the consequences of not achieving a certain goal might not be dire, it is not enough reason to put off doing all I can to achieve it.
On another note, I haven’t done any sewing so far and I probably won’t for a bit longer because I am yet to set up a sewing space in my new home. I am in the process of getting my table and cabinet constructed and then I can gradually unpack. I do have a sketchy plan for where to begin my quilting this year though. The plan is to start work on completing some UFOs from 2016 and I intend to spend some time de-stashing my quite large stash of scrap which I discovered in the course of packing for relocation. As a matter of fact, I probably don’t need to buy any more fabric for a very long time…says no quilter ever! But hey I really do have enough fabric to last for a while or at least until I locate a decent fabric store in my new city ha! 🙂
After all the commissioned work from last year, I believe I will take time off to work on some fun projects and participates in QALs or learn a new technique or two. As far as the blog is concerned, I fully intend to share not just about my quilting projects (work in progress and finishes) but everything in between including the struggles, the challenges and the pleasures. All in all I anticipate we will have so much fun together this year – when I eventually get my acts together that is. In the meantime, I will be busy trying to integrate myself into my new environment now that I have finally resumed in my new office.
What are your plans for 2017 and what are you currently working on? What do you have on your list of techniques to learn or patterns to make for the year? On my list of patterns to make I purchased the Christmas in July pattern bundle and I was lucky enough to win one Meadow Mist Designs’ pattern last year. I can’t wait to have something new to share with you and to see what you have been up to so far. As always thanks for stopping by and have the most amazing year!
P.S: I jumped on the #monthlymarker bandwagon so featured image is my January marker!
