I am happy to announce a new Christmas mystery quilt along! There will be 12 blocks by 11 designers released every other Tuesday starting August 1 to December 5. Guess what, I am one of the designers and the best part, it’s free!
There will be 11 hosts meaning you will get to see 11 different versions of each block on the day it is released. The hosts will be available to cheer you on, share tips on making each block and to answer your questions if you get stuck. Amazing right?
With the blocks being released every other week, you will be able to set an easy pace . However, we do have a couple of weeks when we will release two blocks at the same time, but at least one block in each of those weeks is pretty quick. The benefit of doubling up on those two weeks is that the final block is released on December 5. This gives you nearly 3 whole weeks to complete your top before Christmas.Read more: I wish you a Merry Quilt Along
Thank you so much for all your wonderful comment on the blog hop post! Unfortunately my blog had a mind of its own and I was unable to get notifications by email. I believe I replied everyone one way or the other and if I didn’t, I apologize.
Where were we?…Yes, I was telling you about my crazy experiment with trying to up size Jen’s wonderful pattern because making the small one just wasn’t enough! I decided to multiply all the given dimensions…I mean if you want to double numbers you multiply by 2 isn’t it? Turns out it isn’t as simple as that with quilting maths.Read more: Quilter’s Laundry Day Mini Quilt Pattern: My crazy experiment!
Welcome to my stop on the 2017 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop! I was so excited to participate in this last year and you know, once is never enough so of course I had to do this again. Thanks to this year’s amazing hosts Yvonne @quiltingjetgirl, Leanne @she can quilt and Beth @Cooking Up Quilts for letting me have another go at this. By the way, you should visit their blogs as they introduce other members of their hives today. As always, there are tons of prizes to win during these hops thanks to the generous sponsors so make sure you check that out.
Now to the reason you are here…my name is Sola and I quilt and Blog in my little corner of the globe all the way in Nigeria! Why Alice Samuel’s Quilt Co? I chose that name as a memorial to my parents. I would love to tell you a lot more about me but I believe I already covered that much here and here.
Welcome to everyone on the blog hop visiting here for the first time – Good to have you here and I hope you decide to look around and follow me on my adventure. My name is Sola and you can read all about me and my quilting journey here and here. For the regular visitors, welcome back for the big reveal of my secret sewing project…The Quilter’s Laundry Day Mini Quilt designed by Jen Rosin of A Dream and a Stitch (a free pattern available on Craftsy here) the blog hop is hosted by both Jen and Janice Holton of Color Creating & Quilting – Thanks Ladies (stop over and drop a comment on their blogs for your chance to win lovely prizes).
I really do love a challenge and trying out new things (at least in my quilting) as most of my previous creations would suggest. Therefore, when I came upon the call to join the blog hop and saw the beautiful pattern, I knew I had to give it a try. I remembered wanting to create the shadow mini quilt from the hop last year but I couldn’t.
I must confess though, that I almost gave up after downloading the pattern and seeing all those tiny pieces needed for the mini (16.5″). I’m afraid my brain doesn’t deal well with anything smaller than 2” unless it’s a long strip but this pattern had me cutting 1.5 x 2.5” pieces…pheww! In addition to that, I am terrible at labeling my pieces and not mixing up the pieces without labeling was a real trial! Fortunately for me, cutting and keeping track of the pieces were the only difficult part of the entire process, the rest of the steps went by like a breeze. This is all thanks to Jen for a pattern so clearly written, concise and easy to follow.
Wow!!! I am truly beyond excited, you all are far too kind for visiting and leaving such amazing comments.
Like I said, it was my first day back at work and I was looking forward to a very stressful day but none of that mattered because every time I have a minute to check my mail or follow up the progress of my blog hop post, there’s a wonderful comment that puts a huge smile on my face. I couldn’t contain myself…it still feels so unreal that I took a chance that paid off way beyond my expectation. My stats for yesterday blew me away for sure!
When I created the tutorial page on the blog, it was just a motivation to one day work up a tutorial but I never thought I’ll have one to share so soon and definitely nothing as successful as my Cloud9 Blog Hop Posthas been so far. I am not very good at putting myself out there and I seem to be doing a lot of that lately thanks to the 2016 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop and subsequently the just concluded Cloud9 New Block Blog Hop. I am so grateful for the amazing quilting friends I’ve made since all these started and most importantly, I am grateful for the level of growth I am experiencing in my Quilting even if I do say so myself 🙂 . It certainly doesn’t feel like I am that lonely quilter in my little part of the world anymore and that feels great.
If you miss out on all the fun posts, don’t worry, here is the permanent landing page: http://quiltingjetgirl.com/2016-cloud9-new-block-blog-hop/ for all the Blog Hop posts. I certainly will be referring back for some fun blocks to make and there are lots! In the meantime, I will catch up on all the posts from yesterday I am yet to visit.
Thanks again for stopping by everyone. Your visits and comments are the reason behind all the excitements so thanks for keeping them coming.
P.S: I have been responding to comments via this blog apparently there’s a way to reply via email which I have now discovered, so henceforth I shall make effort to respond to your comments via email and when I can’t, I’ll continue to respond over here.

Welcome everyone, Long post alert but it’s my first tutorial y’all! My name is Sola in case you are visiting for the first time via the blog hop, I do hope you enjoy looking around and find a reason to stick around! In other news, sadly (yes I did say sadly )I’m back to work today after my long holiday . It feels like yesterday when I was tracking my fabric delivery hoping it gets to me before I left for my holiday but guess what, they delivered it a day after! Anyway, 3 weeks later after lots of hiccup and dragging my husband out of bed at 6 a.m., I finally got the fabric. Wait…what fabric am I on about?
Well I’ve had exciting things happening since I took part in the 2016 New Quilt Blogger Blog Hop and somehow I took a leap of faith and signed up for this blog hop (the reason why you are here). The Blog Hop is sponsored by Cloud 9, and hosted by (Thank you Ladies! 🙂 )Yvonne of Quilting Jetgirl, Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designsand Stephanie of Late Night Quilter! I believe there are almost 70 bloggers creating new blocks using the fat quarter bundle of the oh so soft and oh so pretty organic Cirrus Solids generously provided by Cloud9 fabrics and the palette we got is called “Berry Harvest” how befitting and clever. Before I forget, Don’t miss out on the (3) separate fat bundle giveaways, visit the hosts for entry details! Another cool fact, all the new blocks are going to be pieced together to make a charity Quilt.Read more: Welcome to Cloud 9 New Blog Hop
I am really glad you are here, thanks for stopping by like I always end my blog posts! On one of those random days I actually decided to scroll through my WordPress reader, something interesting caught my eye. Someone had posted about a New Quilt Bloggers group and I wanted to find out more. I definitely found out more and while I didn’t think I was even qualified to participate based on the stated requirements, I filled the form anyways and I have to say that’s probably one of the best decisions I’ve made all year! Fast forward couple of months later and here we are, it’s finally my turn on the Blog hop but first, a big thank you to the hosts of this 2016 New Quilt Bloggers advisory group Stephanie @Late Night Quilter (I belong to Stephanie’s hive and we are the Hive Sewciety) Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl, and Cheryl @Meadowmist Designs. Please stop over at their blogs to find out more about other new Quilt bloggers and for your chance to enter amazing giveaways by the sponsors.Read more: Thanks for stopping by…I’ve been expecting you!
