Remember my current work in progress is the wonky quilt-as-you-go Log Cabin. I showed you my progress in the last Post, as of today though, I have now made enough blocks for a baby quilt as contemplated. The quilt top is completely pieced and while I tried to choose an arrangement that best showcases the blocks, In the end I decided to go with the flow.
With the top now completed, it is time to look for a backing fabric. In the spirit of improvising though, I might make a pieced backing from the left over fabrics from piecing the top.
My sewing table didn’t make it home this past weekend after all but I did manage to get some sewing done with my stop gap setup. Anyway, remember my challenge for now is to quilt my stash of strip scraps and I have been doing just that with my experiments so far. This weekend I decided to take it a step further, probably because I was inspired by the idea of improv piecing from Carole’s Book. What better way to get rid of some of my scraps than a fun log cabin block piece. To make it even more fun I figured wonky log cabin quilt was just the thing! I did say I particularly liked the color palette of my EPP project from Work in Progress Wednesday and could likely make a quilt in that palette.
It has been a while friends – Life happened as usual!
The Quilting Process series has fallen way into the background for a long time so before we continue, let me catch you up on what we’ve covered so far. If you are just joining, the series is all about the major processes involved in making a Quilt from start to finish.
My machine works now yippee! Remember that work training I mentioned in my previous post? Well it required me travelling back to my former city, I called up my regular service guy and he was happy to look at my machine if I was willing to travel down with it. Duh…of course I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity even if it meant travelling heavier than I should. Long story short my machine is up and my table should be coming in this weekend hopefully…happy days. Continue reading “Quick Catch up “
Hello! You already know I’m not doing enough sewing right now thanks to my machine deciding to malfunction at the most inconvenient time ugh! Speaking of the machine, the repair man did check it out on Saturday and got the wheel working but wait for it…it is still not functioning! This time it’s something with the top and bottom sync. The needle won’t pick the bobbin thread and when it does, it struggles to sew less than an inch before the thread breaks. He will come back to sort that out hopefully…fingers crossed that it works well after that ?. Continue reading “Work in Progress Wednesday”
Why oh why did it have to be today of all days! It was shaping out to be a great day you know. I got the day off work and after doing some cleaning chores, I figured I could try unpacking some of my sewing stuffs. I was planning to get started on a new project, anything at all to ease the restlessness caused by lack of activity! I emptied one bag of scraps into this laundry basket with the plan to sort them and probably work on a scrappy project. Continue reading “This is really annoying!”
Hi Guys, can you believe it is two entire weeks of the New Year already gone? I can’t either!! That just shows how time flies. Anyhow, let me officially wish you a happy new year and welcome you to 2017. In my last post I briefly reviewed everything that went down last year especially in my Quilting and I did refer you back to my first post from 2016 where I made a list of commitments as against resolutions. I mean there is nothing wrong with making resolutions but I found out over the years that most times the excitement ends at making the list and most often than not it remains a list with no action or result to show. Hence, decided instead on a list of short and achievable commitments. Subsequently, in addition to the commitments I made last year which are still very valid, I am adding a commitment to be more proactive and deliberate in the actions I take towards achieving my set goals for this year. Truthfully I can’t even say I have it all planned and figured out yet but I am consciously noting what would be nice to and what must be achieved in my quilting and general life.
