Decisions, Decisions…here’s my Decision.

Thank God it’s Friday! Things are a bit quiet at work so I’m seizing that opportunity to quickly share an update on the decision I made following my last Work in Progress Post Decisions, Decisions… Thanks to everyone that shared their thoughts and suggestions on that post, your lovely suggestions were ringing in my ears as I made my decisions.

Quick recap, I already decided the quilt was going to have a pieced border (I had a rail fence block kinda thing in mind at the time) but then I was torn between having another round of border before or after the pieced border. I also needed to determine what color of fabric to use if I do decide on a border before the pieced border. I was leaning towards another round of black border but I found a floral fabric I considered for a minute (I eventually decided against the floral and I settled on using it in the binding instead, it worked perfectly!) How to make 32 Half Square Triangles (HSTs) at Once

Oh yes you read that right! I “accidentally” made 32 HSTs 2 years ago and I said accidentally because I messed up the cutting of my Squares for the 8 HSTs at once method. I had seen the tutorial for that method somewhere but couldn’t pinpoint it when I needed it (I wasn’t on the blog then and I still don’t know why I didn’t do another Google search?) so I did the maths in my head and figured to get (8) 2.5″ HSTs, I need 2 squares measuring 11″ needless to say I was far from being correct! I stitched 1/4″ away on both sides of my diagonal lines but when I came to cut my pieces I realized my HSTs were way bigger than what I wanted so I stopped to find a solution and that’s the brief history of how I came about the 32 HSTs at once. Decisions, Decisions… A new work in progress

Welcome back everyone! Now that the blog hop is done and holiday is over, it’s time to move on to a new project ?

I pieced the center of this work in progress last year but it ended in the unfinished object pile because I couldn’t decide what to do with it then. I picked it up again this year and added some borders. Then I planned to add a bigger border to take it to the desired size (A double bed size) but I wasn’t completely sold, so it went back into the UFO pile. A Box full of Junk

I am still on my annual leave and no, I didn’t travel anywhere fancy but I did travel to go be with my husband who works in another city which is just what I needed.  Usually when I travel, I don’t go with plans to do any active sewing as I travel without my machine but I always have a bag of English paper piecing (EPP) kit to go.  I have now relocated my spare machine to be permanently here, however, I still planned to do more English Paper Piecing and I found this old grid paper…a memorial from beginner’s class. I had made a mistake on this particular one so I tossed it aside, that’s all I have left of this isometric grid paper that I have looked everywhere online for as I recently discovered another use for it.(I’ll be sharing that in another post) Continue reading “A Box full of Junk”

Piecing Completed on “Nautical”

I know, I know! I said the next time I post about this it will be completed but that’s not happening anytime soon because I won’t have access to my full sewing space for a while, I’m still on my annual leave. I am however posting a quick picture of my achievements so far and in this post basting your quilt I mentioned I won’t be Quilting this as I go like I have been doing with my other projects. That means the Quilt top is now completed and I might then stick to my promise of not posting about this again until it is completed but I seriously doubt that 😉 I foresee another post while basting this so fingers crossed for now. “Playing Along”: A work in Progress

This was supposed to be part of my #workinprogresswednesday post and for some reason I keep feeling like it’s Wednesday today…so let’s just go along with it shall we?

I recently moved on to a new project after unashamedly abandoning my previous project due to the fear of basting at least for now 🙁 . In the previous post about my new project which I have decided to name “Nautical” …thanks Tierney 🙂 I shared my fabric choices, my chosen pattern and progress as at the time of the post. Today I’m just going to post a quick update of what I’ve done so far. Continue reading ““Playing Along”: A work in Progress”

I’ve moved on!

Yes I have…moved on to a new project *insert any cheeky smiley here*. Remember that post about procrastination? turns out I’m back right where I started …creatively procrastinating!  Meanwhile, I am giving myself a major pat on the back for successfully quilting this giant quilt with spirals that seems to literally take forever and thus completing the Quilt top! Now it’s time for that horrific part of the quilting process…Basting! If you have been following my Quilting process series then you know the next post should be about basting and quilting but for the life of me I can’t come up with a strategy for that post. I’m worried it will be such a lamentation that might scare a fellow beginner quilter to death and we definitely don’t want that *gasps*! Continue reading “I’ve moved on!”
