So this was a post from 2016 but it’s been getting a lot of views lately and I thought it deserves a repost as the technique is still as useful even 2 years later. I hope someone finds it helpful. Kindly let me know what you think if you try this!
I “accidentally” made 32 HSTs 2 years ago and I said accidentally because I messed up the cutting of my Squares for the 8 HSTs at once method. I had seen the tutorial for that method somewhere but couldn’t pinpoint it when I needed it (I wasn’t on the blog then and I still don’t know why I didn’t do another Google search?) so I did the maths in my head and figured to get (8) 2.5″ HSTs, I need 2 squares measuring 11″. Needless to say, I was far from being correct! I stitched 1/4″ away on both sides of my diagonal lines but when I came to cut my pieces I realized my HSTs were way bigger than what I wanted so I stopped to find a solution. That’s the brief history of how I came about the 32 HSTs at once. Continue reading “How to make 32 Half Square Triangles (HSTs) at Once”
As always after a brief break, it seems I haven’t been here forever! What have you been up to?
2 more sleeps till the month of February 2017 is gone forever but I don’t mind, I am actually excited. Why? well when I wake up after the 2nd sleep I’ll be a year older! 1st of March is my birthday and I am happily looking forward to it. It isn’t like I have any plans besides anticipating another year of my life that is. I had planned to have a giveaway but I haven’t gotten round to making any of the things. However, I’ll probably just keep it open for the entire month and that should give me plenty of time to make some things.

Remember my current work in progress is the wonky quilt-as-you-go Log Cabin. I showed you my progress in the last Post, as of today though, I have now made enough blocks for a baby quilt as contemplated. The quilt top is completely pieced and while I tried to choose an arrangement that best showcases the blocks, In the end I decided to go with the flow.
With the top now completed, it is time to look for a backing fabric. In the spirit of improvising though, I might make a pieced backing from the left over fabrics from piecing the top.

My sewing table didn’t make it home this past weekend after all but I did manage to get some sewing done with my stop gap setup. Anyway, remember my challenge for now is to quilt my stash of strip scraps and I have been doing just that with my experiments so far. This weekend I decided to take it a step further, probably because I was inspired by the idea of improv piecing from Carole’s Book. What better way to get rid of some of my scraps than a fun log cabin block piece. To make it even more fun I figured wonky log cabin quilt was just the thing! I did say I particularly liked the color palette of my EPP project from Work in Progress Wednesday and could likely make a quilt in that palette.
More so, I happen to have a lot of strips left in those fabrics so why not right? Continue reading “Quilt-As-You-Go Wonky Log Cabin Blocks”
My machine works now yippee! Remember that work training I mentioned in my previous post? Well it required me travelling back to my former city, I called up my regular service guy and he was happy to look at my machine if I was willing to travel down with it. Duh…of course I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity even if it meant travelling heavier than I should. Long story short my machine is up and my table should be coming in this weekend hopefully…happy days. Continue reading “Quick Catch up “
Hello! You already know I’m not doing enough sewing right now thanks to my machine deciding to malfunction at the most inconvenient time ugh! Speaking of the machine, the repair man did check it out on Saturday and got the wheel working but wait for it…it is still not functioning! This time it’s something with the top and bottom sync. The needle won’t pick the bobbin thread and when it does, it struggles to sew less than an inch before the thread breaks. He will come back to sort that out hopefully…fingers crossed that it works well after that ?. Continue reading “Work in Progress Wednesday”
Been a minute friends…How have you been? Well I’ve slowly but surely packed and relocated my things ahead to my new home. However I’m currently visiting family in another city and will be traveling to go spend Christmas with my In-laws before heading home. What are your plans for the festivities?
On the quilting scene, I’m all packed up for the year but I did travel with my sewing machine and was able to make some gift items ?. I’m so excited about the year ahead and hoping we’ll have so much quilty fun! Continue reading “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in Advance”
Remember what I said about relocating and how I am struggling to pack my stuffs? I decided I could squeeze out time to make some blocks or minis out of my huge scrap stash (should be easier to handle that way). Yesterday, I rummaged through my scrap basket/box and pulled out some coordinating fabrics and I plan to make as many things as I can until I exhaust them. Anyway, after my previous failed attempt at slashing and stitching, I wanted to give it another try with a mini in mind. I started out with 15″ square in some left over gray fabric because I tried black the last time. Continue reading “Current Work in Progress: To stop or to go on?”
Thank God it’s Friday! Things are a bit quiet at work so I’m seizing that opportunity to quickly share an update on the decision I made following my last Work in Progress Post Decisions, Decisions… Thanks to everyone that shared their thoughts and suggestions on that post, your lovely suggestions were ringing in my ears as I made my decisions.
Quick recap, I already decided the quilt was going to have a pieced border (I had a rail fence block kinda thing in mind at the time) but then I was torn between having another round of border before or after the pieced border. I also needed to determine what color of fabric to use if I do decide on a border before the pieced border. I was leaning towards another round of black border but I found a floral fabric I considered for a minute (I eventually decided against the floral and I settled on using it in the binding instead, it worked perfectly!)
