here Hiya! Let me quickly apologize for being away too long, lately I’ve been a bit all over the place and it has taken me longer to return here and for that I am sorry 🙁 On that note, welcome back to the Quilting Process series 🙂
Now that you have done all the due diligence of choosing the right pattern, the perfect color scheme and have shopped and selected the best quality fabric for your quilting project, it is time to get busy and the next process is the cutting of your precious fabrics ! Welcome back! Let’s pick up right where we left off here
I was telling you about the Color Wheel I installed on my tablet and how I sometimes use that to guide my decision on color scheme for my Quilts . It is also very easy to see colors to put together based on my scheme of choice. At the time of writing that post, I really tried to give enough information without making it too long hence the decision to continue the discussion in another post. My intention was to expatiate on the use of the Color Wheel and give discussing the concept of Color theory a go…sounds like an easy plan right? Well I eventually found out it wasn’t at all 🙁 As much as I tried last week I just couldn’t decide on a direction for this post and it took me over a week to figure out why! Welcome back 😉 Yippee we are making good progress on the series – if you are just joining you can go check out what we’ve talked about so far here.
OK let’s get right to it…Colors! This is about the most daunting part of the quilting process for me even till now. I love dark colors, I’m all for black, grey and when I deviate from that I gravitate towards purple, blue (not the light shades) and on the bright end of the spectrum is white (but technically black and white aren’t colors they are neutrals…hmm?). I rarely experiment with colors in my personal styling, my wardrobe is almost devoid of bright colors…I wonder why. Well I’m not here to talk about that, I’m here to talk about working/experimenting with colors in my Quilting 🙂 . Continue reading “The Quilting Process: Choosing Colors for your Quilts”
In the first post, I was talking about making little efforts even when you don’t feel like it and how every little action can yield noticeable achievements. Today, I want to talk about the little changes I have been making to my sewing routine.
When I started sewing again this year after the holidays, I noticed my favorite rotary cutter was faulty 🙁 I had left it opened the last time I used it and it obviously fell…I don’t know when or how but anyway, the blade doesn’t retract and I can’t cut with it anymore (I won’t make that mistake again!!!). I switched to my newer cutter which I recalled or so I thought that I only just changed the blade and I was so frustrated because cutting was such a struggle. In my head I couldn’t believe or even accept the fact that a dull blade was the source of my headache but alas I changed the blade and hmm it cuts like knife through butter 🙂 Continue reading “Every Little Thing Counts: Part 2”
Hello there, Welcome back to the series. Apologies for the break in transmission, I was on some sort of “holiday”. If you are just joining the series you haven’t really missed much, see what we’ve talked about so far here, here and here,
Last post I was talking about my trip to the fabric store, what I love about it, the challenges and just a background chat on the importance of fabrics to the Quilting process. I mentioned we will be spending some time talking about fabrics and how important it is to make the right choice when choosing the fabrics for your Quilt. Continue reading “The Quilting Process: Choosing Quality Fabrics”
OK, welcome back. Let’s do a quick recap of how far we’ve come on our journey…what you need to know before you start here √, Quiltspiration and how choosing your pattern or block is the starting point of the process here √ Alright then…you are up to date 😉 !
Earlier last week, I was feeling so crappy and cranky about things that had nothing to do with my quilting or so I thought, but somehow it was creeping into my quilting sessions and I was making mistakes all over the place. I became literally bored to my bones with the customs I was working on…No, No, No, we can’t have that!!! 🙁 I needed to do something and I needed to do it fast. Continue reading “The Quilting Process: The fun bit!”
The other day I was working on a block and it must have been my state of mind at the time but I decided to try something different. I was working on a project with lots of corner triangles (can’t post that yet) and usually I’d mark and pin my square pieces before piecing, I mean perfection is all that important right or not ;). Well this time I tried a tip I’ve seen in a few places and even tried a couple of times on my own for accurate 1/4″ seam. I reached for my draping tape…if you’ve ever seen an episode of Project Runway then you know the one I’m talking about? Continue reading “Experience or Laziness?”
Few weeks ago, my very first paying client contacted me about replacement pillowcases for the ones I made earlier (almost 2 years now…) to change things up she said, she wanted me to stay within the same color scheme as before. I was kinda booked but I knew I couldn’t turn her down or push it till after I completed my current commitments … decisions decisions – I thought if I could just sacrifice a little comfort time I can get it done for her without disrupting the plans I had for my current project. Final decision, I’d dedicate my weekend sewing marathon to it, I wasn’t banking on the fact that the terrible pain in my abdomen and back will finally drive me to the hospital!!!. Continue reading “THE WEEKEND THAT WAS”
I can’t believe February is almost over, the year seems to be flying by so quickly it feels like many things are slipping by without notice…Sorry I’ve been MIA 🙁
Anyway, welcome back to the Quilting process series…today we are going into the very starting point of the Quilting process. I believe you’ve had a look at the previous post giving you information about what you need to know before you dive into quilting. I take it you learnt a little about the necessary tools, resources, skills required and even what a quilt sandwich is all about among other things?
So let’s begin…I just found out there’s something like “Quilting in your head” Continue reading “The Quilting Process: START”
How has your week been so far? I am looking forward to the weekend already 🙂 I had a very productive weekend last week and I’ve been meaning to share but promise to tell you all about it later!.
Today, I continue with the Quilting Process series and I think it’s appropriate to start with the things you should know before you start quilting. While I was OK jumping right in and figuring out my way as I go, I definitely wish I knew most of these things then but I wouldn’t take anything away from my learning journey so far though 😉 Continue reading “The Quilting Process: Before you start”
